Program Description

Event Details

In honor of Autism Acceptance Month, B3 Coffee and the The Orange Chatham Support Group of the Autism Society of NC are proud to present the award-winning film, Deej, centered on a non-speaking Autistic adult who pursues and achieves his dream of attending college.

In his advocacy on behalf of other nonspeaking autistics, he embraces filmmaking and poetry, and discovers what having a voice can truly mean. Alongside him, his family navigates this journey, ensuring that he has the necessary accommodations and support to experience full inclusion.

Following the film, a panel of parents and care partners of adult Autistic children will share their wisdom, resources, and experiences gained from supporting their child through the transition to adulthood. Parents of young Autistic children are especially encouraged to attend and learn what parents/care partners from previous generations wish they had known earlier.
