Program Description

Event Details

Hurricane Helene showed us that nowhere in North Carolina is safe from the effects of climate change. From the Outer Banks to the mountains, hurricanes are washing our communities into the sea and flooding is threatening historic towns and sacred places. But regular people are taking the lead to deal with the climate chaos in their own backyard. Justin Cook, a journalist and photographer from Durham, NC has been documenting these people for nearly a decade, with the support of the Pulitzer Center and the Solutions Journalism Network. Join us for a presentation of some of his work from the Outer Banks, Princeville, and Swannanoa about local climate solutions and the importance of compelling visuals in climate storytelling, followed by a discussion with locals working on solutions to adapt, preserve and heal the places they call home.
